Ashridge Consulting and National Trust are working collaboratively on a unique organisational development (OD) intervention to build internal consulting capability.
This emerged from a ‘Going Local’ strategy, which meant General Managers at properties assumed greater autonomy and Functional Advisors became internal consultants needing to build relationships of trust.

This OD intervention includes both personal and organisational development.
We will share how this intervention supports and challenges behaviours and attitudes in order to deliver the business objectives vital to the Trust’s performance, while addressing the difficult issues that often accompany change and restructuring – such as loss of power, trust and role identity.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Gain an insight into how Ashridge and National Trust work in partnership to ensure the intervention remains relevant at a time of much organisational change.
  2. Identify key findings from the Evaluative Inquiry process as part of this work, which highlight aspects of the OD intervention that facilitate development of internal consulting capability.

Jonathan Noall
Senior Training and Development Manager
Working for the National Trust since 2005, Jonathan Noall manages all Training and Organisation Development interventions with a focus on the functional specialist teams. These include the many different Conservation specialisms, the Marketing and Supporter Development Directorate, Finance, IT, HR, Retail, Catering and more, across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Following the implementation of a new Leadership and Management Competency Framework which forms the behavioural foundation of all development, Jonathan has focused over the past two years on developing relationships of trust between their internal consultants and clients, built on principles of collaborative working and innovation. There has been a shift in power internally away from functional advisors toward the operating line running their properties; a significant cultural shift that requires re-contracting internal services with the newly empowered client and a revised sense of value and identity for their advisors.
