Pre-doctoral research associate in economics - INSEAD

We are looking for a full time/part-time Pre-Doctoral student to work as a Research Associate (Area Researcher) on INSEAD’s Singapore campus.

The Research Associate’s tasks are to assist the school’s faculty in conducting research, coordinating information management, and working on special projects for the INSEAD faculty.

This position is ideal for recent university or Master’s graduates looking to develop their research skills in Economics, with the view of applying to a PhD program.

We are looking for someone who is good at managing data and in particular using Stata. Ideally, they would also have experience working in economics research projects.

The position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal at the end of the first year upon evaluation.

It is a full time position but we would also consider part time.

The work environment is informal and exciting.

The candidate would work closely with professors in the Economics area: Professors Antonio Fatas and Ilian Mihov.

We are looking for local candidates or those authorized to work in Singapore.


  • Assist with quantitative and qualitative research projects, as well as field research in Economics.
  • Develop models and programming with programs such as Stata, Matlab and Python. Perform statistical analysis including running regressions. Assist with data entry and maintain computer data sets with appropriate analytic programs.
  • Maintain databases and extract data from different databases for analysis. Maintain the status of various projects and their corresponding completion dates.
  • Assist with data analysis, interpretation, write up and dissemination of findings through the preparation of reports, journal articles, presentations, web sites, and other research outlets.
  • Perform case based research, including the ability to work with detailed primary documents

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics and Business science are preferred.
  • Fluency in written and oral English.
  • Previous research experience and knowledge of econometrics is a strong plus.
  • Excellent academic record and work ethic required.
  • Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills required.
  • Enthusiasm for research required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer software and statistics packages (e.g. Stata, R, Python, Mathematica, Matlab, etc.).
