EU-VIP – Enterprise-University Virtual Placements

EU-VIP stands for Enterprise-University Virtual Placements. Work placements can play an important role in the knowledge transfer between higher education institutions and the business community. In a global economy it is also becoming more and more important to introduce students to an international working environment during their education. When students do go abroad for a work placement, the integration of this placement in the curriculum is not always optimal. Furthermore, there are also students who, for financial, geographical or social reasons, do not have the possibility to go abroad.

Project description

EU-VIP is a two year EU-funded project (October 1, 2009 until September 30, 2011) under the Lifelong Learning Programme (ERASMUS). The EU-VIP project will design models and services for:
  • virtual mobility activities to prepare students for a stay abroad and to sustain the experience after they return,
  • fully virtual placements.
These models and services will be developed through a process of testing and improving. In total 18 pilot projects will be set up. Three training workshops will be organised to prepare all target groups involved: students, higher education staff and company representatives. All pilot participants will be asked for feedback. Furthermore, input from the target groups will be collected via stakeholder meetings and student symposia. All project results will be collected in an online and printed manual.

In this project 16 partners from 8 different countries work together. To ensure the success of the project all target groups are represented: the consortium is composed of higher education institutions and European not-for-profit associations of universities, businesses and students.
EFMD is associated with all project activities, but will in particular, coordinate the exploitation work package.
