A business school’s corporate connections can bring many benefits, not the least of which is to make the essential practical links between theory and practice. They can lead to internships to give students work experience and eventually facilitate career placement, research and consultancy opportunities to help faculty keep relevant to the end market, advisory boards to ensure relevance of programmes, clients for executive education, and to help obtain corporate support for a range of other activities.
Often different parts of the school have individual responsibilities for certain aspects of these connections but too rarely is there joined up thinking for an overall corporate connections strategy. As a result there may be gaps and overlaps in the linkages made and the school may not be making the best use of its links.
Accreditation agencies usually expect schools under review to have wide ranging linkages. So how should business schools establish and resource effective corporate connections?
Target group
Deans, Associate Deans, Directors and managers responsible for corporate relations, external relations, development office, executive education, careers and placement offices, academic programmes.
