It is surrounded by many restaurants, hotels, furnished apartments, pubs, beach resorts, coffee shops, bookstores and bakeries. In addition, the Hamra district houses a wide variety of landmarks all within close proximity to one another. Most government buildings such as the Central Bank, and the Ministries of Tourism, Finance and Telecommunications are located in Hamra. Lebanon’s only airport is the Rafic Hariri International airport, located 15 minutes by taxi from the hotel and the AUB campus. The AUB campus as well as the Gefinor Rotana Hotel are well known landmarks in Beirut so any taxi driver can take you there. The estimated fare is US$ 20 – 30.
If renting a car, the University and the Gefinor Rotana Hotel can be reached from Rafic Hariri International Airport by taking the main highway from the airport all the way through Camille Chamoun Highway, Salim Slam Highway and Salim Slam Tunnel. Before reaching Beirut's Downtown district (Ahmad Mokhtar Beyhum Street), you should take a left towards the bridge and then the tunnel (Fouad Chehab Highway) that leads to Kantari Region (Army Street) and then towards Hamra District (Michel Chiha and Banque du Liban streets). Once in Hamra Street, you can take Omar Ben Abdel Aziz Street (through Hamra Street's main intersection) towards Bliss Street and AUB's campus. Currency: Both Lebanese Pounds and US dollars are considered acceptable legal tender. US$ 1 = 1,500 Lebanese Pounds.
