EFMD receives EU grant to strengthen managerial capacities in Cuba

EFMD has recently signed an agreement with the European Commission to manage a 42 month management development project in Cuba. In cooperation with ESADE (Barcelona), the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education and existing Cuban universities a new postgraduate management programme targeted towards senior managers will be launched in March 2010. The programme is scheduled to run for 3,5 years.

In parallel, training programmes and specialized workshops will be organized for Cuban professors and university managers. The academic design and coordination will be managed by ESADE, with European professors being selected from across the EFMD network of member schools.

EFMD will organise a programme of workshops and trainings for Cuban university managers in Europe and at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China.   Simultaneously, EFMD will initiate discussions with the Cuban authorities to survey the needs of the country in terms of management education and to determine an agenda for long term academic cooperation between European and Cuban institutions in the field of management education based on the EFMD experience in establishing CEIBS.

ESADE has a long history working in Cuba as it was responsible for the training of more than 450 Cuban senior managers as well as 120 Cuban professors through the D(E)ADE programmes which ran from 1996-2006.

This 42 month project has been made possible by a grant from the European Commission, through the 2009 Annual Action Programme for Non-State Actors and Local Authorities in Development.
