Corporate L&D organisations are increasingly urged to improve the business case for total learning investment by the firm in an environment where resources are limited. This becomes an even bigger challenge in multinational firms where business lines interfere with geographies and in which a corporate L&D organisation frequently acts alongside local L&D providers. But this is for sure a general phenomenon in a continuously maturing profession such as Learning & Development where all, international or local are getting confronted with the demand of assuring impact of investments.

At the same time, the increasing speed at which the competitive environment, technologies and regulations change has significant implications on how companies operate. Driving up industrialization to bring down costs while increasing innovation to differentiate vis-à-vis the competition reinforce the call by the business for more proactive support in its continuous transformation.

Learning Business Partner, Performance Consultants, Learning Advisor … are only a few of the roles emerging to ensure optimal learning and transformation solutions are contracted and deployed. Developing L&D professionals capable of establishing a trustful relationship with business executives, with the ability and courage to challenge assumptions are instrumental to the strategic alignment and impact of learning.

Hence, these challenges raise a number of questions:

  • What are the value propositions and contributions of corporate L&D organizations in supporting business transformation?
  • How to configure the right L&D business model including services & markets, structure, governance and resources in which stage of evolution?
  • How to navigate the own transformation process while developing learning professionals to trusted advisors to the business?

Since September 2010, a group of companies joined forces in the EFMD Learning Business Partner Special Interest Group to address these issues and to learn from each other. Participants include Siemens, Allianz, Capgemini, DuPont, Lilly, EnBw, Pon, SEB, Syngenta and STMicroelectronics. The participants of this group will bring extensive outputs of their work and share during the seminar.

The format will be action learning oriented where participants will play an active role in generating knowledge, testing ideas and assumptions through facilitated discussions. The outputs of the seminar will also enable you to take concrete ideas and action plans back to your company.

In addition, the seminar will provide the opportunity to hear experts and speakers discuss latest research and emerging practices, including: Prof. Shlomo Ben-Hur, Professor of Leadership & Corporate Learning, IMD, Switzerland and Steven Smith, Vice President, Director Capgemini University, Capgemini, France who will discuss the brand-new IMD case study on the role and impact of Capgemini University in the business transformation of Capgemini Group.
As well as Robert Doerzbach, Business Unit Head Consulting of EnBW Akademie, who will present the case of an integrated L&D services department, its internal account management approach as well as its integration with the company HR Business Partnering model.
