“Management & Development of New Products Programme – Training for Change on the Automotive Sector”

Description
2007 marked a milestone for the Automotive Industry of the Northwest of Spain: while all production records were broken, that year saw the start of a downward trend for the sector that continues today. A strategic change needed to take place to ensure the sustainability of an economy segment representing 11% of the GDP and the employment of the region. This presentation describes how the Galician Automotive Cluster (CEAGA) set up a Corporate University in close collaboration with its member companies as part of their strategy to transform the sector into a business model with higher added value implementing a successful top-down, cross-company, action-learning approach.

In the session we will:

  1. Describe the key differentiators of a complex structure, composed of around 90 heterogeneous organisations, and the challenges faced to position learning in the cluster at a strategic level.
  2. Describe the implementation and evolution of an advanced and comprehensive training programme aimed at opening new horizons for product development to the cluster companies.
  3. Show how this programme is helping to transform the cluster, not only by developing its professionals and the companies they work for and by effectively growing and expanding the sector’s knowledge, but also by creating a culture of collaboration and openness in the sector which is essential for its survival.

CEAGA & its Corporate University were awarded in the EFMD Excellence in Practice Award 2013 in the Special Category ‘Price for Network Partnership’. The full case-study is available online.
