“Merck Global Human Health Executive Development Programme”

How do you create an executive development learning experience that accelerates the development of key capabilities while advancing the organization's strategy?

Like most market sectors, the Pharmaceutical industry was challenged by the economic downturn that began in late 2008.  The industry faced new healthcare models, globalization, the increasing influence of emerging markets, consolidations taking place within the industry, increased pricing pressures, patents reaching maturity, and rising competition from generics.  These challenges required new skills from Merck’s leaders and no formalized executive development programs existed.

In this session, you will learn about how Merck and Wharton collaborated on the design and implementation of a 12-month, blended learning and development initiative that accelerated the integration of strategic capabilities and leadership behaviours needed to drive business and growth during a critical time in the industry.

In this session we will:
  1. Describe how significant shifts and challenges in the pharmaceutical industry was a catalyst for Merck to create a platform to develop general manager capabilities during times of major change.
